Community Development and Civic Engagement
Since its inception in 1910, the National Urban League and its local affiliates have been at the forefront of the civil rights movement, and continue that leadership and advocacy role today. With key programs focused on empowering African Americans to achieve equality in all aspects of America life, the League builds bridges that will close the equality gap forever.

The right to vote is the first step in civic empowerment. That is why the National Urban League and its affiliates are leading a new empowerment movement to give people the skills and access they need to take an active role in determining the direction quality of life and policies shaping their communities.

We work to promote and ensure all of our civil rights by actively working to eradicate all barriers to equal participation in all aspects of American life -- whether political, economic, social, educational or cultural.
